What To Do When You Feel Out of Control—the Short List

  • Walk away
  • Breathe
  • Clear your mind
  • Take a break immediately
  • Call a friend
  • Try to understand that this too will pass
  • Try meditation
  • Try a naturally calming tea or herb
  • Try guided relaxation
  • Try to understand that it is the disease—NOT your care recipient—you are upset about
  • Go for a walk
  • When you have calmed down, call your doctor or mental health professional
