One of my favorite Toghers Moments is a story about a man and his grandmother. She comments on the day – that it dark and gray. Her grandson realizes that although it is actually bright and sunny outside - from her only window – which hasn’t been cleaned in a few years, it is indeed dark and gray. When he explains this to her, she says “got a dirty eye, see a dirty world” (Excerpt from the BOOK of Awakening, Mark Nepo)
How many times do we go through our day with a dirty eye? Seeing only the negative side, the problems, the pain, missing the beauty, the joy, the blessings.
Perhaps we need to wash that “dirty eye” – make a shift in our perception and make a conscious effort to seek the beauty, the joy and the blessings. It is amazing how we will find what we are looking for if we pay attention. Make a promise to yourself to start tomorrow with a clean eye – look for the beauty in everyone you meet, count the blessings of the day, find joy in the small pleasures of life.
